Grade 1 Associated Board viola examination scales and arpeggios

Here are 28 free audio files to help you with scales and arpeggios for Grade 1 viola of the British examining board The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. They are all played at three different speeds - slow, medium and faster.
D Major scale and arpeggio - 1 octave
G Major scale and arpeggio - 1 octave
C Major scale and arpeggio - 2 octaves

The audio files will help you to:
    • be reminded of the type of sound you are aiming for.
    • remember which rhythm to use.
    • practice slurs.
    • check your tuning against a key note.
    • think about patterns that occur within the notes of scales and arpeggios as well as the ones that you can feel when using your fingers on the strings.
    • work aurally and kinesthetically. Follow the information in the glossary and work visually as well.

In order to help with the exam pieces and increase your listening skills and knowledge of different styles of music I have selected some YouTube videos of tunes that some of you will learn.

Make use of these resources if you have nobody at home that can help you. They might also be useful during holiday periods when a teacher is not available.
