About Me

Sarah Hackett's technology skills were acquired during a course undertaken entirely online with Anglia Ruskin University where she gained a first class BA (Hons) Learning, Technology, Research (Ultraversity) which was based around her violin and viola instrumental teaching.

She started with a very outdated word processor in 2003 and progressed to being able to find her computer files (an impossible task in the beginning), using html code and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to build a website for pupils (which cannot be found by Google for pupil security reasons so only a split image is included), making videos and dabbling in Moodle!

Musical qualifications: Sarah, a student of the Royal Academy of Music many years ago, holds the LRAM, the Dalcroze Certificate and has also studied Kodaly with the British Kodaly Academy acquiring the Certificate in Kodaly Music Education with distinction and the British Kodaly Academy's Advanced Certificate. Her violin teachers at graduate and post graduate level have been Derek Collier and Madeleine Mitchell. Folk fiddle input has mainly been from Pete Cooper who runs excellent evening classes at Cecil Sharp House, Regents Park (free ad for Pete!)

Sarah has a love of the violin and piano repertoire and each year learns a new sonata.  In recent years she has had the very great pleasure of working with pianists Helena Gascoyne and Elizabeth Parker who entered into this venture with her by learning what are often seriously heavyweight piano parts.  Works performed with them include:-

Sonata in D Minor for Violin and Piano by William Hurlstone,
Sonatina for Violin and Piano 1933 by William Alwyn,
Sonata No. 3 for Violin and Piano by Delius,
Sonata No. 1 in D Minor for Violin and Piano by John Ireland,
Sonata in E Major for Violin and Piano Op. 18 by Herbert Howells,
Sonata in A minor for Violin and Piano by Amy Beach,
along with pieces by Howard Blake and a whole host of Romances by various composers.

Together with John Hackett and Elizabeth Parker forays have been made into chamber music with trumpet -  Eric Ewazen's Trio for Trumpet, Violin and Piano  and James M. Stephenson's Trio Sonata for Violin, Trumpet and Piano.

Current teaching: violin and viola at independent and state schools at both primary and secondary level. Upper strings tutor coaching Youth orchestras for a London borough music service.

Memberships: The British Kodaly Academy, The Dalcroze Society UK, The European String Teachers Association, The Musicians' Union

Hobbies: gardening and reading detective novels in English and Spanish.
